#121 – NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…

I’ve been an avid follower of Yoko Taro’s works since Drakengard, which was a delightfully messed-up, nightmarishly confusing, horrifyingly clunky game about giant babies with teeth that want to destroy the human race…and succeed in most endings. OK, so maybe it was a little bit more complicated than that, but that was my main take from it, because I was a teenager and it was…well, fucking weird. Putting it mildly. But the original NieR…that left an impact on me from the moment they did the first voice teaser with Kainé, and it’s echoed through the last eleven years – I still listen to the soundtrack on a daily basis. It’s my gold standard for soundtrack, my gold standard for storytelling, and one of the best games I’ve ever played. I love NieR.

Since Automata I’ve wanted a remake of Gestalt with Automata’s QoL improvements to combat, visuals, etc. Now I’ve got one. This is going to be tough to talk about…
