#117 – Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest

There aren’t enough games that let you play as the villain, and there are even fewer where the line is completely blurred. As someone who finds antagonists infinitely more interesting – after all, without a villain there is no hero, the villain shapes the story – this is something that is a constant disappointment to me in the video game industry. More games need to be about personal struggle and conflict, rather than good vs. evil. I don’t want to feel like I’m on the “right” side all the time, I want to have my thinking and perceptions on what I’m doing in a game challenged.

So, here’s the Conquest side of things.

#115 – Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright

I have done some pretty awful and nerve-wracking things for video games – most recently I spent twenty-eight anxiety-fuelled minutes in a queue for a PS5, then another thirty minutes fighting with the website to order a bundle before it booted me out again or they sold out – but by far the worst thing I have ever done is check multiple websites hourly for over a month for the Fire Emblem Fates special edition…because I would be damned if I was going to buy the games separately and a third path digitally.

Hard to believe that was 5 years ago. I’ve only played the games once, and a lot of it has leaked out of my head. Now felt like a good time for a replay…thank you, Fire Emblem Heroes, for giving me four different 5* Camillas.
