Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Assassin’s Creed is a series that I had pointedly ignored and avoided for years, ever since I played the original on the 360 and hated it. Then I played Odyssey in 2017 (ten years later!) after watching a gameplay video.

Holy crap.

Immediately one of my top 10 video games of all time. I don’t know if it was the depth of the lore and worldbuilding, the dramatic and emotional narrative, or the extremely entertaining character of Kassandra, but I loved it. So much so that I decided to have a closer look at this series. Maybe it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was after all.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon

I have very fond memories of Luigi’s Mansion on the Gamecube, and replaying it last year on the 3DS was a delightful nostalgia trip. It’s aged, and it still has the same flaws (mostly it’s too short and way too easy, and there is a lot of backtracking which becomes tedious in the latter half of the game) but overall it’s a pretty enjoyable, relaxing experience.

…which leads me to wonder how on earth they could have ballsed this one up so profoundly.

Fairune

From something long, to something (disappointingly) short! Fairune is a game that I have had on my to-do list for what feels like forever. I had always intended to buy it on the 3DS and give it a try but never got around to it. So when the Fairune Collection popped up on Switch – and then halved in price in a sale – I decided that now was finally the time to buy it.

I then ignored it for…six months? Something like that.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

It’s fitting that the first game I finish in the 2020s is the one that I spent the majority of the 2010s playing, first on the 3DS, and then later on the Switch. Finally, after close to 1000 hours, about twice that many hunts, and a complete Guild Card and shiny gold crown over my online name, I think I can finally put this game down.
